A couple from Jacksonville, Florida has been arrested following the gut-wrenching homicide of toddler, Zamora Foe.

According to local outlet WJXT, mom Zayla Goodwin, 20, and her boyfriend Nathaniel Davis, 23, were at home when Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department paramedics arrived on September 10 following a call about a “medical emergency” in which a child had “gone into cardiac arrest and was unresponsive.”

Heartbreakingly, the 22-month-old died just eight days later after being rushed to the hospital. It was revealed she had “multiple injuries” as well as meth in her system. The couple was arrested in September on neglect, but by December, Zamora’s death had officially been ruled a homicide as investigators uncovered horrifying details of the child’s last days…

A probable cause affidavit obtained by Law&Crime detailed how another adult living in the home noticed Zamora had stopped walking before she was found unresponsive, and when questioned, Zayla answered by saying she “fell in the bathtub” a week before. On the morning help was called to the scene, Zayla claimed she awoke to her boyfriend giving CPR to her daughter because she was found not breathing and facing upside down on her mattress.

Citing a warrant, WJXT reported that the property was searched after first responders arrived on scene, and they found some disturbing things. Among finding methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, and multiple cell phones, they found bloodied blankets next to the child’s bed, bloody diapers in the trash, and numerous bloody bandages. Sickening. And it gets worse.

According to the previously cited affidavit, the toddler suffered fractures in both of her legs and one of her arms, and had ligature marks around her neck. She also had signs of sexual abuse as well as scratch marks over her “entire body.” The First Coast Child Protection Team told police these injuries, particularly the leg fractures, “would have caused intense pain and any reasonable caretaker would have sought medical attention.” They also said a child experiencing such injuries, which appeared to be less than 10 days old, “would not have been able to bear weight on their legs given the extent of these fractures and the anticipated degree of pain experienced.” So, so awful.

On Thursday, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office announced they’d arrested both Goodwin and Davis, explaining in a Facebook post the investigation led to upped charges:

“After an extensive investigation, on March 20, 2025, your #JSO homicide detectives arrested:

Zayla Goodwin, 20 – Aggravated Manslaughter of a Child

Nathaniel Davis, 23 – First-Degree Murder, Sexual Battery (2 counts), Aggravated Child Abuse, and Tampering with Evidence.

A grand jury indicted Davis on first-degree murder this week. Due to the nature of the case and the ongoing investigation, we cannot share additional details.”

Both Goodwin and Davis are being held at Jacksonville County Jail without bond. In a statement, the JSO said:

“The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office will work with the State Attorney’s Office to get the harshest punishment possible for this heinous crime against an innocent child. Children are our community’s most precious asset.”

So senseless and horrific. May Zamora rest in peace and get the justice she deserves.
