Good thing we didn’t hold our breath!
[SPOILERS, OBVIOUSLY]
After almost a year of keeping Jon Snow’s fate up in the air, Game Of Thrones finally resurrected the fan favorite character at the very end of Sunday’s episode.
While we couldn’t be more excited for the revival of the Lord Commander, we can’t help but feel a little duped by the cast’s incessant denial that our favorite crow would ever again have a pulse.

Of course, the cast was just doing their job in countering the heavy fan speculation that the hunky Night’s Watchman would live — but man, were they convincing in their ruse!
No one has lied more about Jon Snow’s fate than Kit Harington himself, who tried to avoid the press like the plague in the wake of the shocking Season 5 cliffhanger.
But when he did talk to reporters, the actor straight up lied and said he was “not coming back next season.”
A few months later, the 29-year-old slightly changed his tune, curtly stating that he WOULD be in Season 6 — only to play a corpse! He told Time Out magazine:

“Look, I’m not in the show any more. I’m definitely not in the new series. I filmed some scenes of me being dead├óΓé¼┬ªIt’s some of my best work!”

And even just a few weeks before the premiere, Harington fibbed with conviction yet again on The Jonathan Ross Show, telling the audience:

“It’s going to be so satisfying when you see it and you realize that I was telling the truth the whole time…It’s going to be so relieving when people actually see the show and realize that I don’t come back.”

Well, this is awkward, seeing as though he’s TOTALLY ALIVE NOW!
Harington isn’t the only GoT cast member to lie over Jon Snow’s fate! See who else chimed in with their lies (below)!

During the London Film Critics’ Circle Awards‘ red carpet in January, Arya Stark broke fans hearts with her lies, telling press:

“It’s a great twist but I can’t say he’s going to be alive.”

Nikolaj Coster-Waldau

Stopping by Jimmy Kimmel Live! in February, the actor tried to fool us with facts, telling the audience:

“He was stabbed 50 times in the heart. He’s dead.”

Natalie Dormer

During press for her horror film The Forest back in February, the actress echoed Coster-Waldau’s sentiment by pointing out the “basic medical rules” of the situation, explaining:

“If you get stabbed that many times, you’re dead, you know. There are some basic medical rules that even apply in Westeros. So Jon Snow is dead right now.”

Emilia Clarke

Khaleesi can never tell a lie! A few weeks after Season 5’s shocking finale, Clarke told MTV News that Jon Snow had a “50/50 chance” of making it out alive:

“If I had to bet, I’d say there’s a 50/50 chance…”

The cast members haven’t been the only ones to play coy over the fate of the Lord Commander.

During last summer’s Television Critics Association press tour, HBO programming president Mike Lombardo gave little hope to fans who wanted Jon to pull through, saying:

“Dead is dead is dead. He be dead. Everything I’ve seen, heard, and read, Jon Snow is dead.”

Even showrunners Dan Weiss and David Benioff tried to curb fan speculation right off the bat, telling Entertainment Weekly after the Season 5 shocker:

“Dead is dead. We would hope that after seeing the scene and the way it’s shot that the answer to that will be unambiguous in the minds of the people watching it. It should be pretty clear what happens in by the time you’re done seeing that scene. It’s not an, ├óΓé¼╦£Oh what just happened scene?'”

Clearly everyone was in on the ruse — or they really were just kept in the dark…
Either way, it’s cool now because Jon Snow is alive and all is right with the world. Wake up, you beautiful bastard!
