If you’re like most of America and are having trouble fulfulling your daily fruit, vegetable, and whole grain nutritional value, then pay attention!
Here are three EASY tips for making sure your body gets the neccessary nourishment from the recommended two servings of fruit, followed by three servings of veggies and grains.
Fruits: This is the easiest food group to get in every day. After all, fruit is one of the most naturally delicious foods on the planet! Instead of relying on fruit flavored candy for your fix, chomp down on the real thing! Start off EVERY morning with a piece of fruit like a banana or apple!
Vegetables: What good is a piece of meat for dinner without a hearty side of vegetables to compliment the flavor? Stock your freezer with easily reheatable frozen vegetables spinach, broccoli and green beans, then make them a staple of every dinner meal.
Whole Grains: Beyond switching from plain white bread to to whole wheat, try snacking on puffed whole grains. Dietitian and SHAPE contributor Cynthia Sass recommends Arrowhead Mills puffed brown rice, kamut, millet, whole wheat, and corn, saying:
“You can eat them as a cold cereal, fold them into yogurt, toss in a baggie with nuts and dried fruit for an on-the-go snack, or crush and use as a crust or topping in place of bread crumbs.”
Follow these simple tips and you’ll be on your way to living a healthier lifestyle. Trust us, your body will thank you.
