James Gunn was fired just over a week ago.
In case you hadn’t heard, some Donald Trump supporters who didn’t like his political tweets dug up and passed around the worst, grossest jokes he’d ever posted on Twitter, mostly from around 10 years ago.
In the days since Disney made the very quick call, many fans and critics alike have stated their concern in his being fired. Hasn’t he made it clear he’s learned and grown since then? Isn’t that what we want to encourage?

After all, if we’re all being judged by what we used to be like, shouldn’t Disney be boycotted for What Makes The Red Man Red?
While Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy cast had previously made their support known with vague social media signs, they have now all signed a statement explicitly wishing for his reinstatement as writer-director of Vol.3.
See what Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel, Dave Bautista, Pom Klementieff, Michael Rooker, Sean Gunn, and Karen Gillan collectively said (below):
Although I don’t support James Gunn’s inappropriate jokes from years ago, he is a good man. I’d personally love to see him reinstated as director of Volume 3. If you please, read the following statement- signed by our entire cast.A post shared by chris pratt (@prattprattpratt) on Jul 30, 2018 at 9:41am PDT
We just want to highlight this:
“James is likely not the last good person to be put on trial. Given the growing political divide in this country, it’s safe to say instances like this will continue, although we hope American from across the political spectrum can ease up on the character assassinations and stop weaponizing mob mentality.”
We cannot agree with this statement more. Not only do these attacks aim to take down good people over their political beliefs (and this one was perpetrated by actual alt-right conspiracy theorists), they also trivialize actual horrid behavior.
Good for the Guardians. They really are just like Kevin Bacon.
