Another reboot, another big change!
When we heard TV Land was reimagining the ’80s high school classic Heathers, we knew it was going to be different.
But this is a level of diversity we had to see to believe!

In the original film, the titular popular girls, Heather McNamara (Lisanne Falk), Heather Duke (Shannen Doherty), and leader Heather Chandler (the late Kim Walker) ruled with an iron fist, making all those who were “strange” or different feel like outcasts.
In the new version, the outcasts ARE the popular clique! And here are the new royals:

Jasmine Matthews, in her TV debut, will play cheerleader McNamara — who is a black lesbian this time around.
Comedian Brendan Scannel will play a genderqueer version of Duke named “Heath.”
Melanie Field, a Broadway vet whom you may have seen as Madame Morrible in the national tour of Wicked, will play a version of Chandler who is described as having a body like Martha Dumptruck from the original film.
Grace Victoria Fox and James Scully (not pictured) were previously cast in the roles of Veronica and J.D., originated by Winona Ryder and Christian Slater, respectively.

We’re torn here.
On the one hand, more diversity is ALWAYS a good thing. And it’ll be a hoot seeing a different posse rule the school for a change.
On the other, did this show just make all its characters that weren’t white, straight, and thin the bad guys??
Hmm… we’ll have to wait and see how they handle it.
Are YOU looking forward to this brand new take??
