Awards! Speeches! Donald Trump jabs!
That’s basically what went down during Sunday’s Hollywood Film Awards.
Since the first show to kick off awards season was just a few days ahead of Super Tuesday, the celeb speeches were mostly filled with political messages — and yes, most were aimed against the GOP nominee.

Even host James Corden weighed in on the heated political climate, quipping in his monologue:
“This is it. This could be the last awards ceremony before the apocalypse. Come Wednesday morning we could all be watching a real-life version of The Purge├óΓé¼┬ª This year they brought back Star Wars with a female lead, they rebooted Ghostbusters with a female lead and I pray to God they reboot the Clinton presidency with a female lead.”
Unsurprisingly, support for Hillary Clinton continued to rain down throughout the night.
Robert De Niro thanked the HFA for being honored with this year’s comedy award (We hope not for his performance in Dirty Grandpa…), but also urged the crowd to vote for HRC. He said:
“I know we’re here to celebrate movies in Hollywood…but it’s two days before a frightening election and the shadow of politics is hanging over us whether we like it or not, and it’s hard from me to think about anything else. So let me just lay it out right here–we have the opportunity to prevent a comedy from turning into a tragedy. Vote for Hillary Tuesday.”
Fellow Hollywood icon Leonardo DiCaprio didn’t say Clinton by name, but he basically reamed Trump for his position on climate change after receiving the documentary award on his global warming doc Before the Flood, telling the crowd:
“Let’s all use our power as citizens to do the right thing. Please vote…Vote for people who believe in the science of climate change.”

After receiving the Actress Award, Natalie Portman also chimed in on the election — taking the angle on the treatment of women in this year’s presidential race.

The actress, who plays Jackie Kennedy in the biopic Jackie, said:
“We have obviously heard so many crazy things that have been said about women this year politically and to women and I feel so lucky to be a part of this film that is about a woman who was known maybe first for being a wife├óΓé¼ΓÇ¥first to Kennedy and then to Onassis├óΓé¼ΓÇ¥but then really became someone who could be recognized on her own merits just as Jackie.”
Of course, not everyone in the room was feeling the Clinton love. Staunch Republican Clint Eastwood was a presenter, along with a few random renegades in the audience.
But at this point, we don’t blame them for staying silent and letting the HRC support flow free.
