Iman was happily married to David Bowie for 24 years before his tragic death in January.
The Somali supermodel and the Space Oddity rocker got married in 1992 and welcomed daughter Alexandria Zahra Jones in 2000 — all while balancing careers in music and fashion.
In an interview taped before her husband’s death for an episode of OWN‘s Oprah: Where Are They Now?, Iman opened up about how she and Bowie made their marriage work.

While Bowie is one of the biggest music icons in history, Iman revealed they separated themselves from their public image at home, explaining:
“We both understand the difference between the person and the persona. When we are home, we are just Iman and David. We’re not anybody else.”
Noting the secret to their lasting marriage was “timing,” the 60-year-old added:
“You have to be at the right time your life that you’re ready for an everlasting relationship, that it becomes a first priority in your life. If your career is important to you, don’t get married and have children…we can’t have it all at the same time.”
