We’ll love Jennifer Lawrence until the end of time, but sometimes the people we love will say some unsavory things in their lifetime.
Jennifer Lawrence is now one of those people.
Specifically, she was talking about Christian Bale and the weight he had to gain for American Hustle (which won a Golden Globe last night!), and having to make out with him in that heavier state.
Here’s what she said:
“I finally get to make out with Christian Bale and he’s a really fat guy. … He’s Fatman, not Batman.”
Saying something like this is even more a bummer coming from someone who champions a realistic look at bodies in Hollywood, instead of the fat-shaming, skinny-rewarding system that’s in place.
While it’s undeniably true that Christian had to gain weight to look overweight for the role, and that it was super different than being buff Batman, it was a pretty unnecessary comment! Sure, she may have been joking, but it’s still a bit shocking coming from her!
Just imagine had this statement been said the other way around!
While worse things have been said, we really can’t help feel a bit disappointed in her. We’re sure she’ll redeem herself, though!
