Jessica Simpson sure isn’t holding anything back!
The With You singer apparently wishes she had been with Johnny Knoxville (yes, that Johnny Knoxville…) for much of her marriage to Nick Lachey! And according to Simpson’s own words in her bombshell new memoir Open Book, it sounds like her connection with the Jackass star was a surprisingly authentic one…

Although the book itself won’t be released to the public until February 4th, Radar Online is reporting via an advanced copy that the 39-year-old singer openly admitted to “wanting so bad to be with” Knoxville right as her marriage to Lachey was falling apart in the mid-2000s.
Writing about her apparently-incredible connection to the reality TV daredevil, Simpson acknowledged a “pen pal” relationship, and some of the frustrations of not being able to do anything about it while she was married to another man:
“It was like Johnny and I were prison pen pals, two people who wanted so much to be with each other but were kept apart [by our] respective spouses. There was something Nick wanted from me that I no longer had. An emptiness I couldn’t fill.”
For the starlet, then, it seemed like Johnny was the perfect one to fill that gap.
The pair initially began flirting with each other on the set of The Dukes of Hazzard while filming around 2004, and very quickly, the singer reported how they were sending “love letters” back and forth to each other.
Then, she soon enjoyed a significantly better emotional connection with Knoxville than she’d had with her own husband, admitting in the memoir (below):
“It’s funny, I know, because I placed such an emphasis on sex by not having it before marriage. After I actually had sex, I understood that the emotional part was what mattered. And Johnny and I had that, which seemed far more of a betrayal to my marriage than sex.”
Wow!
The Johnny Knoxville we (and most people, we’d think) know is the devil-may-care Jackass alum who seemingly lived to cause trouble… but who knew he was so emotionally available?!
Meanwhile…
As emotional support became more readily available on set, Jessica and Nick grew further apart at home.
The superstar recalled in the memoir:
“There were so many tabloid stories about Nick in strip clubs or talking to girls that I just didn’t know what to believe. Did he feel caught in this marriage? He kept putting himself into situations where he could be so easily accused of cheating. It was self-sabotage. And I was supposed to stay home and be Betty Crocker?”
And she continued from there, noting that their fights increasingly caused them to drift apart:
“We were not one of those couples that screamed at each other, let whatever fly out of our mouths, and then make mad, passionate love. No, we would yell at each other, and then he would go out of town and not answer his phone. Vegas or Miami with his boys. Or he would just stay out late to teach me a lesson. He had a group of guy friends who used him to get into places and enjoy VIP treatment at strip clubs and bars. He liked that scene, and I thought it was gross.”
No kidding about that last part… very gross!!

Now, Simpson has long remained adamant she didn’t cheat on Lachey with Knoxville… but after reading all this, do you guys still believe that?!
