Chicago Police Rejects Jussie Smollett's 'Redacted' Phone Records As Evidence For Hate Crime Attack

Jussie Smollett

As time goes by, it proves to be more and more difficult to locate and bring Jussie Smollett‘s attackers to justice.
On Monday, per TMZ, the Empire actor turned in copies of his phone records to Chicago PD, which are a crucial part in the ongoing investigation of the alleged brutal attack on his life two weeks ago.
But according to law enforcement, the copies were excused as evidence due to the fact that they were heavily altered!

As we reported, Jussie said he was on the phone with his manager and creative director Frank Gatson shortly after leaving a Subway restaurant when the attack happened. It was Gatson who later convinced the 35-year-old to report the incident to police.
Proof of the call between these two, where racial and homophobic slurs made by the assailants were reportedly overheard, is what police were hoping to find and confirm. Per sources connected to TMZ, the PDFs submitted were reportedly heavily ‘redacted’ and therefore not eligible for use as evidence.
Although the police did point out that there’s no evidence that the specific phone record in question was actually manipulated, the problem here is that the fact that it was edited at all.

Ugh, how unfortunate… especially since police haven’t been able to identify the attackers from nearby surveillance footage. Police say there are cameras everywhere in the area of Jussie’s building, but there is reportedly a 60-second gap in the video where you don’t see him at all.
Could a direct download of his actual phone do the trick? Hmm…we have to wonder why the full records weren’t submitted to begin with.
Our thoughts continue to be with Jussie in the aftermath of it all.
