Kanye West Pops Up At Joel Osteen's Megachurch To Discuss Prison Reform & Hold Sunday Service

Kanye West Joel Osteen

Talk about a match made in, uh, heaven…

Kanye West showed up at Joel Osteen‘s Houston-area megachurch, Lakewood Church, on Sunday for religious services, and it appears that the whole thing went… surprisingly smooth? Yeezy was there to discuss his personal religious testimony, and he also opened up about prison reform, before preparing for a later Sunday Service with a full choir in tow.

TMZ put up a livestream of the entire event, and Ticketmaster was handing out free tickets for the morning show, too, though scalpers were reportedly working hard to re-sell the tickets at a much steeper price ahead of the event. The livestream itself took place at the morning service, at 11:00 a.m. Central Time; Osteen and the church will host Yeezy for a second event later Sunday evening, at which point the choir will come out and participate, as well.

As the story goes, the megachurch preacher and the high-profile rapper have been “talking on the phone quite a bit” ever since Yeezy doubled down on his religious commitments over the last year or so. Finally, he and Kim Kardashian West proved to be game enough to head to Houston for the weekend, so Yeezy could speak in front of the 20,000-plus people who regularly attend Osteen’s megachurch in that city’s former basketball arena.

As for the event itself…

The sit-down between these two public figures was interesting, to say the least. Kanye gave Joel a LOT of credit in bringing “thousands upon thousands of people” to the “right path” of Christianity, and for that alone, the rapper implored people to praise Osteen. Yeezy also spoke about his own life in religion, and how he came back to the church over the last year or so. The fashion designer touched on his 2016 mental breakdown, and some of the faith-driven things that resulted in the fallout and aftermath from that as he recovered, as well.

The whole discussion was somewhat enlightening to that end, with Yeezy opening up about his testimony and quite clearly giving Joel’s crowd a heck of a show. You can watch a couple quick highlights of the longer event in this TMZ stream clip of a portion of the interview (below):

Hmmm…

FWIW, Kanye did at one point say he’s the single greatest artist that God ever created, so… he’s still got that swagger, even as a religious man! LOLz!!!

Prison Reform?

Bonus Kanye content: TMZ spoke with the College Dropout performer after he left the stage, and he made it clear to them that he’s set to turn his attention to prison reform and assist his wife in all the amazing work she’s so far done in that realm. It’s unclear when and how that will begin, but this is something Kanye is pretty clearly passionate about so, hey, where there’s a will, there’s a way!

What an interesting day in Houston… Reactions, Perezcious readers?! What do U think of Kanye’s Sunday Services at Joel’s megachurch??

Two MAJOR Christian world views in the same place, at the same time, and on the same stage… Lord, have mercy on us all! Ha!!!
