Kara DioGuardi Talks About Her Chicago Debut

We’re going to be straight with you girl – we don’t have too high of hopes for you. Just because you can write music doesn’t mean you can perform it. Here’s your chance to prove us wrong though.

Starting September 5th, Kara DioGuardi will take over the role of Roxie Hart in the Broadway production of Chicago. It’s a pretty lofty role for a debut and to be frank, we don’t think she fits the part, but according to Kara, she has more in common with her character than we think. She explains:

├óΓé¼┼ôFeisty. She├óΓé¼Γäós a bit of a survivor. She├óΓé¼Γäóll kind of do whatever it takes to get the job done├óΓé¼┬ª That didn├óΓé¼Γäót sound so good, but you know what I mean. She├óΓé¼Γäós quick on her feet, so that├óΓé¼Γäós good.”

Speaking of being quick on ones feet, Kara admits that on her first day of rehearsals, she warned the crew that she wasn’t a “great dancer” (comforting) and she further revealed that’ll be wearing hand-me-down costumes from another Roxie Hart performer she is all too familiar with – Ashlee Simpson. She raved:

“I can’t believe it fit. I definitely had to push it in a little bit, but yeah, it fit.”

Fabulous. By any chance did you happen to stumble upon an folk music in the pockets during a fitting? (We’re still waiting, AshSim!)

We can’t be there in person to see if you’ll butcher this or bring it new life, but we will be keeping a close eye on the reviews. Here’s hoping Manhattan’s elite reviewers have more faith in you.
