HTGAWM's Karla Souza Comes Forward With Rape Allegation Against Mexican Director

Karla Souza
Karla Souza
is sharing her #MeToo story.
The How To Get Away With Murder actress told CNN en Español on Tuesday that she was raped by a director in her native Mexico at the beginning of her career.
While she declined to name the director while speaking with Carmen Aristegui, the 32-year-old said the assault happened while on location, where she was staying at a separate hotel from the rest of the cast. Only she and the director had rooms were assigned to this particular hotel.

Souza claims the director would drop by her room in the middle of the night:

“He knocked at my door saying he wanted to go over some scenes and I thought it’s 2 a.m., it’s not appropriate and it’s something that shouldn’t be happening.”

One night, when she refused to open the door, he “decided not to shoot my scene and then he suddenly started to humiliate me in front of the others on the set”:

“This was the psychological control that he held over me.”

After a month of being ousted by the director’s “total abuse of power” she felt she had no choice but to “give in”.
She shared emotionally:

“I ended up giving in to him. [I let him] kiss me, to touch me in ways I did not want him to touch me and in one of those instances, he attacked me violently and yes, he raped me.”

Wow. As we’re learning, this happens all too often.
Thank you, Karla, for sharing your story.
