Kelly Clarkson Reportedly Being Groomed To Take Over Once Ellen DeGeneres Departs Daytime!
Kelly Clarkson has some big dancing shoes to fill!
As The Voice coach gears up for the launch of her new daytime talk show, it’s being reported that she could very well be taking over Ellen DeGeneres‘ time slot once the comedian ends her reign as queen of daytime.
Sources familiar with the situation tell The Blast that Ellen has been signaling to network and production execs for quite some time that she’s approaching the end of The Ellen DeGeneres Show, which has been on the air since 2003.
Though she recently extended her contract through 2020, the 60-year-old revealed to The New York Times that she almost didn’t sign — hinting that she’s about ready to pass the torch to a star whose soles are less worn. That protege appears to be Miss Clarkson.
The Blast’s sources say that execs are “grooming” the Since U Been Gone songstress, who in September announced she would be launching The Kelly Clarkson Show in Fall 2019, to take over Ellen’s sacred time slot once she finally departs daytime — which could very well be before Kelly’s show has even one season under its belt.
Those behind the decision to invest in the American Idol alum believe she has enough star power and hosting charisma to fill the void of Ellen’s absence. After hosting a mock show on Ellen earlier this year, Kelly hosted the Billboard Music Awards and was praised for both speaking out about gun violence and her amazing musical opening number.
The Kelly Clarkson Show will be a lead in to Ellen’s show on all NBC-owned stations. It’s being described as a “fun, energetic show that breaks with tradition. In each episode audiences will experience an hour full of remarkable stories, celebrity guests, spontaneous surprises, humor, heart and, of course, good music.”
