In 2014, he and ex-wife Mia St. John sued a mental health facility after losing their son Julian St. John to suicide at the age of 24 while he was receiving treatment. Following Julian’s death, Kristoff and Mia founded the El Saber es Poder (Knowledge is Power) Foundation to battle mental illness.
In 2017, around the three-year anniversary of his son’s passing, Kristoff was placed under psychiatric hold after threatening to commit suicide.
In a now-deleted tweet, Mia reacted to her ex-husband’s death, reports TMZ:

“THAT HOSPITAL KILLED OUR SON @TheArtofJulian THEN MY HUSBAND @kristoffstjohn1. THATS WHAT HAPPENED! THEY KILLED MY FAMILY”

While the cause of death is currently unclear, one source told TMZ that alcohol may have been involved.
His fiancee, model Kseniya Mikhaleva, also mourned her partner’s passing on Instagram:
