This is scary. Good thing the FBI were on their game!
A Lebanese man, who is also a permanent U.S. resident, Sami Samir Hassoun, has been charged with plotting to bomb a crowded area by Wrigley Field, as people were leaving a Dave Matthews Band concert at the stadium over the weekend.
Hassoun had been collaborating with a man who was cooperating with the FBI, and the bomb planted was a fake provided by an undercover FBI agent.
At this time, the FBI are saying that Hassoun was acting alone. Here’s a statement from Robert Grant, head of the FBI’s office in Chicago:
“He was acting alone. He was not, I would say, highly skilled but definitely desirous of finding the material he needed to carry out his attack.├óΓé¼┬¥
More from Grant:
“His intent was to kill as many people as he could in an area of town that was highly populated, in an effort to cause as much destruction as possible.├óΓé¼┬¥
Major props to the FBI for preventing a tragic attack! We always hear about terrorists being harbored in other countries. Frightening to hear about someone plotting attacks against us, who is in fact a U.S. resident.
Thoughts?
