On Saturday night, the BRIT Awards found a very touching way to honor the late One Direction singer Liam Payne with an extremely poignant “in memoriam” tribute meant entirely for him.
Of course, Payne died back in October of last year after falling from a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires, Argentina during what was later determined to be a very disturbing sequence of events. Ever since, his 1D band mates and fans have been mourning his terribly untimely loss And now, the folks behind the BRIT Awards have gotten in on the action, as well.

To kick off the tribute, show host Jack Whitehall began by saying:
“Last October, we woke to the devastating news that Liam Payne had tragically passed away. He achieved so much in the short time that he was on this Earth, and was not only a supremely gifted musician, but an incredibly kind soul who touched the lives of everyone he came into contact with.”
Then, the broadcast went on to play a montage of poignant and important moments showing Liam throughout the years. That included a touching look back at some of his time in the studio and on the road with One Direction, of course — as well as so much more, including heartfelt family moments and the like.

Wow.
So unbelievably moving. And we aren’t the only ones who thought so, either. Payne’s former band mate Louis Tomlinson took to X (Twitter) to share his reaction to the tribute after the fact:
Thank you @BRITs . Beautiful tribute.
Miss you always brother x
