A sad Christmas for Lin-Manuel Miranda…
On Monday, the Hamilton creator wrote on Twitter that his caretaker Abuela Mundi passed away that morning.

The 37-year-old revealed:
Abuela Mundi passed away this Christmas morning. I may have more words in the days to come but for now my heart is in pieces and that’s where it’s gonna be for a bit. pic.twitter.com/f9Iia15Z9n

In the (above) post, the playwright shares two pics of Mundi with his three-year-old son Sebastian.
In a personal essay for Broadway.com, the actor explains their close relationship:
“Abuela Mundi isn’t biologically my ‘abuela’ grandmother, but she lives in my house, feeds me, tucks me in and walks me to and from nursery school. She took care of my father when he was a kid in Vega Alta, Puerto Rico his parents never stopped working, and when I was born, she came to take care of me and my sister our parents never stop working.”‘
In 2015, Miranda wrote on social media that Mundi — who inspired the character of Abuela Claudia in his musical In the Heights — was able to catch a matinee performance of Hamilton.
Abuela Mundi is seeing the mat. Hope she likes Hamilton better than Heights, to which she said,”you had me win the lotto and you KILLED ME?”
