Bronx Hospital And Broadway Star Create Healthcare Program For Struggling Artists

Lin-Manuel Miranda
This is such a cool program!
Thanks to Tony and Grammy Award-winning artist Lin-Manuel Miranda, the Lincoln Medical and Mental Health Center in the Bronx is offering local independent artists health services in exchange for their creative services.
For every hour they perform or lead a creative activity at the hospital, artists who can’t afford health insurance earn 40 “health credits”, equal to $40, toward medical care.
Miranda, the creator of broadway musical In The Heights, praised the The Lincoln Art Exchange as an “ingenious” venture for NYC health care, saying:

“This is an exciting, potentially win-win venture for both New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation and the artistic community. There are many uninsured artists in New York City, and to be able to contribute their creativity and talents at Lincoln Hospital while simultaneously gaining access to medical care, is ingenious.”

We certainly agree and hope more hospitals adopt the same program to help out struggling artists, while providing entertainment and fun activities for patients.
