Luigi Mangione Allegedly Almost Used A Bomb To Kill UnitedHealthcare CEO -- But Here's Why He Changed His Mind

Luigi Mangione Almost Used A Bomb To Kill UnitedHealthcare CEO Instead Of Gun -- But…

Luigi Mangione’s alleged murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson almost went a lot differently.

Since the 26-year-old Ivy League grad was arrested on Monday, law enforcement officials have been trying to piece together his motives. A large piece to solving that puzzle was the alleged manifesto he had on his person at the time of his arrest, which included a scathing assessment of the healthcare industry here in the US. Thompson wasn’t specifically named, but Luigi said a killing “had to be done.” And that it was… As we know, Thompson was gunned down in the streets of New York last week. But the suspected killer nearly went with an entirely different mode of execution.

Law enforcement sources told TMZ on Wednesday they discovered a spiral notebook seemingly belonging to Luigi in which he wrote a list of to-do’s before allegedly carrying out the murder, as well as notes justifying the crime. Specifically, he wrote about the idea of killing “the CEO at his own bean counting conference” with a device such as a bomb. However, he ultimately decided against it as a gun could more accurately target the CEO whereas a bomb “could kill innocents.”

A senior law enforcement source told People the alleged comment read:

“What do you do? You wack the CEO at the annual parasitic bean-counter convention. It’s targeted, precise, and doesn’t risk innocents.”

So eerie…

As we know from Luigi’s Goodreads account, he championed the Unabomber, real name Ted Kaczynski, and defended his view of corporate America as described in his manifesto, Industrial Society and Its Future, which Luigi hailed as “revolutionary.” Kaczynski, of course, infamously got away with sending hand-made bombs to various airports and universities for nearly two decades. Whoa. There could have been a lot more bloodshed…
