Was Meghan Markle “Duchess Difficult” on the set of her new Netflix show? Crew members shared some insight into what it was really like to work with the Duchess of Sussex!
As Perezcious readers may know, Meg hasn’t been loved by some of her former staffers over the years! Back in September, The Hollywood Reporter claimed sources who worked for the former actress were “terrified” of her, calling her a “dictator in heels.” One ex-employee even told the London Times staff members nicknamed her the “Duchess of Difficult” for a bit! Damn!
Other insiders told Vanity Fair earlier this year that Meghan was cold and cruel “if something went poorly.” Overall, one ex-colleague claimed it was “really, really, really awful” and “very painful” to work with the As Ever founder as she was pretty much a “Mean Girls teenager.” Jeez! She does not have great reviews as a boss!
But what do the crew of her new series With Love, Meghan think of the royal? Do they have a lot of negative things to say about her, too? Not at all! Director Michael Steed praised Meg in an interview with People published on Saturday, saying:
“Everyone has their own version of her, but she’s just someone who’s constantly hustling and working. Her cooking is pretty spot-on. She’s not a chef, and it’s definitely not meant to make it seem like she is, but there’s just a love of cooking that is palpable.”
That contradicts what we’ve heard before! Remember that exec from Spotify who called Meghan and Prince Harry “lazy” and “f**king grifters?” It sounds like Steed has a completely different opinion about the Sussexes!
Another crew member, who remained anonymous, described the Suits alum as very “warm,” approachable,” and “genuine” during his time working with her on the series. He continued:
“She made sure everyone felt included, from Netflix executives to our director to every PA on set. No one was left out. Most of the time, we’re expected to fade into the background, to be invisible. But in this show, we were part of it. We were included. It was a very unique and refreshing experience.”
Wow! This is some high praise for Meg! It’s certainly a change from what we’re used to hearing about the star!
For her part, Meghan stressed to the outlet that she wanted filming to be a “communal” experience for everyone:
“It feels as though we’re just spending time together, which is what it ended up being. I’d make a recipe and say, ‘Everyone try this,’ and there are certain dishes where you just watch everyone flock in. I’d say, ‘We’ve run out of spoons!’ It ended up feeling so communal, and that’s the spirit of the show.”
Hmm. Let’s see if the crew feels the same way about Meghan after Season 2! Reactions, Perezcious readers? Let us know!
