Meghan Markle Slams Nickname ‘Duchess Difficult’ -- 'Really A Codeword For Bitch'

Yet again, Meghan Markle is using her podcast to clap back at haters!

On Tuesday’s new episode of Archetypes titled “To ‘B’ Or Not To ‘B’?” with guests Mellody Hobson and Victoria Jackson, the Duchess of Sussex slammed the use of the word “bitch” while appearing to hit back at her “Duchess Difficult” nickname! On the podcast, the 41-year-old insisted the word “difficult,” something she’s also been called a lot, is merely used to “gaslight” strong women, just like the “B-word.” Noting how the derogatory label tends to be given to a “specific type of woman,” Prince Harry’s wife shared:

“What these people are implying when they use that very charged word, is that this woman: ‘Oh, she’s difficult.’ Which is really just a euphemism or is probably not even a euphemism. It’s really a code word for the B-word.”

Seems like she’s speaking from first-hand experience!

If you didn’t know, Meghan has been referred to as “Duchess Difficult” since 2018 when royal rumors about her “dictatorial” behavior hit the internet, per The Sun. At the time, one of her reportedly negative habits included sending emails at 5 a.m., leading an aide to quit! The unfortunate nickname was first reported in the Daily Express when royal correspondent Richard Palmer claimed the Suits alum was “regarded as difficult and demanding by some in the family and on the staff.”

It wasn’t long until other negative accusations popped up in the headlines — such as the claims she left Princess Catherine AKA Kate Middleton in tears over demands about Princess Charlotte’s bridesmaids’ dress ahead of her wedding. A matter of contention they are still arguing about…

Interestingly, “Duchess Difficult” is not the only nickname she has earned in the royal family. According to royal expert Katie Nicholl, King Charles III also calls his daughter-in-law “tungsten.” As in a hard grey metal — which isn’t even considered precious. The author explained in her book The New Royals via ET last month:

“Charles reportedly nicknamed his future daughter-in-law ‘Tungsten’ because of her toughness and resilience.”

Huh. We cannot imagine she likes being called “tungsten” any more than she likes “Duchess Difficult,” even if the reasoning behind the name is not as shady as it sounds.

While the word “difficult” used to haunt her in the past, she has learned to reframe how she thinks of the term thanks to a friend’s piece of advice. Meghan continued on the podcast:

“My friend said to me, there’s a certain point when you come to terms with the fact that not everyone is going to like you. The goal can’t be for everyone to like you, but the goal can be for them to respect you.”

Hmm. Respect is equally as hard to earn sometimes, especially if you’ve already been blasted as difficult, but it’s a good goal to have! These comments come after Meghan already slammed the word “difficult” in an episode of her podcast last month, arguing being “particular” doesn’t mean you are difficult. She said at the time:

“It does not make you demanding, it does not make you difficult. It makes you clear.”

Later on in this week’s chat, while speaking to Mellody, who is the chairwoman of Starbucks, Meghan also had a revelation about how she wanted to change her parenting style. The businesswoman revealed when she was just 12 she had “horrible teeth” and decided to take herself to the orthodontist. Meghan was so inspired by Mellody’s self-sufficiency, she realized she might need to change things up with her kids, Archie, 3, and Lilibet, 1, saying:

“I have to rethink my parenting style because if that is, if that’s what yields you, I’ve really gotta up my game with our kids being self-sufficient.”

TBH, we don’t know many kids who would self-select to go to the dentist either. Royal or not! LOLz! Thoughts on Meghan’s latest podcast revelations? Do you agree with her take on the word bitch? Sound OFF (below)!
