UPDATE, 9:17 p.m. ET — Well, it looks like Miley has already moved on… with Brody Jenner‘s ex Kaitlynn Carter! Yes, really!
The pair has been hanging out in Italy this week, and paparazzi photos following them just snapped a seriously sexy set of pics showing Miley and Kaitlynn decked out in bikinis in the sun while making out, kissing, and cuddling up close to each other! Whoa!!! (You can see all the sexy pics HERE.)

Oh, no — say it ain’t so!
Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth have called it quits — opting to split up less than a year after they were first married.

The news came down in a statement from Cyrus’ reps to People on Saturday evening, which reads a little something like this (below):
“Liam and Miley have agreed to separate at this time. Ever-evolving, changing as partners and individuals, they have decided this is what’s best while they both focus on themselves and careers. They still remain dedicated parents to all of their animals they share while lovingly taking this time apart. Please respect their process and privacy.”
Wow!!! This one sure came out of nowhere!!
Or, we should say, this one came about VERY quickly after rumors were first touched off hours earlier on Saturday, when Cyrus posted a pic to her Instagram account showing her without her wedding ring. The pic (which you can see, below), drew a LOT of comments from fans and followers about the absence of the ring, and what it might mean for the couple’s relationship:

And now, well, we know — Miley and Liam are no more! The 26-year-old former Disney star and the 29-year-old Australian will apparently go their separate ways, though it should be noted that the statement in question mentions “separation” and “time apart” and doesn’t immediately fall to divorce… so perhaps there’s a shot these two could reconcile yet before it’s all said and done.
Because the rumors cropped up so quickly, and the confirmation now has come so soon after that, there’s just not a ton of info out there about what exactly is going on. It’s interesting, though, because Miley and Liam have been together for a loooooong time — on and off since 2009 — even before they ever made it official and got hitched. Now, not even a year into their official marriage, it appears to be over.

For what it’s worth, TMZ is reporting neither one has yet filed for divorce in Tennessee, the state in which they were officially married. We’ll see if things ever actually get that far, anyways, or if this instead becomes just a temporary separation before they can eventually reconnect. Lord knows they’ve split and gotten back together before!
