We’ve been waiting for this!
Not long after announcing their split, Miley Cyrus was right back in the studio singing about her breakup with longtime love Liam Hemsworth on the track Slide Away — and now we have an official music video for the heartbreaking song.

The visual doesn’t shy away from directly referencing the end of the former power couple’s relationship, either, with many easter eggs in clear sight.

Thoughts??
Here’s what we noticed:
Crocodile
For one, there is a deflated crocodile pool toy (maybe on a leash?) prominently featured in the beginning of the vid. Now, our theory here could totally be a stretch, BUT what do crocodiles make you think of? Crocodile Dundee, the The Crocodile Hunter… Yep. Australia. Where Liam is from. See the dots we’re trying to connect here??
And a deflated balloon, lying there limp and useless, well, that’s probably not a metaphor for anything…
Alcohol
As news of their breakup surfaced, alcohol was a big topic of conversation in the tabloids. Apparently Miley didn’t like how much Liam drank — and with lyrics like “Don’t want the whiskey and pills,” it’s hard to deny the whispers. Bottles and wine glasses are featured multiple times in Slide Away.
Drugs
After the split, there were rumors Liam’s partying ways really got to Miley. Here, a music video extra appears to be snorting cocaine.. So maybe that was the actor’s drug of choice? No way to know for certain, but partying and drugs definitely a theme here!

This one is fairly obvious! Miam were on and off for about 10 years — cue the Ten of Hearts card drowning at the bottom of the pool.
Dark “We Can’t Stop”
Many fans believe this entire thing is basically a dark followup to her infamous We Can’t Stop party music video from 2013. See the eerie similarities (above)?!
Free Floating
Miley is free. Free of Liam. Free to spread her wings. Free to date rumored girlfriend Kaitlynn Carter! The two have been seen in Italy, Los Angeles, and NYC since the end of Miley’s marriage — and they’re even rumored to be living together.
Hopefully happier days are on the horizon for the singer, and more brooding breakup tunes!
