Naya Rivera's Cause Of Death Determined Following Recovery At Lake Piru

Naya Rivera‘s cause of death has been revealed.

Following the recovery of her body from Lake Piru on Monday, it was ruled by the Ventura County Medical Examiner that the cause of death for the Glee alum was drowning.

A press release from the Medical Examiner’s office read:

“The circumstances and visual characteristics all indicated that the body was that of Naya Rivera and the identity has been confirmed by dental comparison. The body has been x-rayed and a full autopsy has been performed. The autopsy findings are consistent with a drowning and the condition of the body is consistent with the time that she was submerged. No traumatic injuries or disease processes were identified at autopsy.”

The statement concluded:

“There is no indication from the investigation or examination that drugs or alcohol played a role in the decedent’s death, but specimens will be submitted for toxicology testing.”

The autopsy was performed after her body was recovered on Monday during the sixth day of searches being conducted by authorities amid “difficult conditions” following her disappearance.

At a press conference on Monday, Sheriff Bill Ayub shared (below) with the press:

“Based on the location where the body was found, physical characteristics of the body, clothing found on the body, and the physical condition of the body, as well as the absence of any other persons reported missing in the area, we are confident the body we found is of Naya Rivera.”
