Keith Urban‘s wife exclaims:
“That’s the character people talk to me about more than anything else… It’s probably the most commercial thing I’ve done in my whole career.”
Wow! That’s saying a lot!
Despite winning an Emmy for her work, the thespian is critical of her performance in the show, based on the best-selling novel by Liane Moriarty. She laments:
“When I saw the therapy scene, which people really responded to, I thought I was terrible… And everyone was like, ‘No, no!’ I think it was because I felt too exposed and vulnerable. It was probably too much for me to see.”’
According to the Aussie actress, Meryl Streep signed on to play Kidman’s mother-in-law in the upcoming season after the show won big at the Golden Globes:
“She goes, ‘I suppose now I have to join you.’ And we were like, ‘What?’ [She and Reese] were just shocked… She hadn’t even read it… That’s how much she wanted to support us… I was terrified… You’re acting opposite the great one. I get nervous anyway — but to be opposite her and not want her to think, ‘Who is this amateur?’ And also, we want to deliver a series for her that she’s great in. Reese and I were like, ‘We want this for her and for the other women.’ They have much stronger roles in the second one.'”
But will there be a Big Little Lies season 3??
“I think it would be hard to get the whole group together… But we would love to do it.”
In the interview, Kidman also discusses her “intermittent” relationship with disgraced producer Harvey Weinstein. Although she says she wasn’t a victim, she remembers how he would try to control her publicity commitments.
“He would get angry. My recollection of Harvey was never anything other than ‘Nicole, do this.’ I purposely kept my distance.”
Good move!
In regards to the #MeToo movement, Nicole believes there is much more work to be done.
“I think it’s still going to be a long road… Things don’t change overnight. We all know that, and it’s important to keep reiterating that, because what happens is people go, ‘Oh, well. That’s done.’ This is serious stuff that needs to be dealt with for years and years to actually really shift it.”’
