Representative Patrick Kennedy, son of Senator Edward Kennedy, announced today, Friday, that he has checked himself into rehab. Again.
Kennedy, who has struggled with alcoholism, bipolar disorder and an addiction to prescription drugs, checked into rehab three years prior, after an early morning car crash which he admitted was the result of driving under the influence of prescription medication. And before that, he sought help as a teenager for his addiction to cocaine.
Kennedy has used his own problems as a platform for mental health issues in politics and said in a statement that “I hope that in some small way my decision to be proactive and public in my efforts to remain healthy can help remove the stigma that has served as a barrier for many Americans reluctant to get the help they needed.”
We wish him luck on his road to recovery.
