The legendary Broadway performer Patti LuPone has some beef with the Great White Way, particularly the uprising of “loud” productions in midtown. She reveals in a new interview that she is very “angry” over the ticket prices in NYC these days and much like everywhere else, she blames greed from the producers. But there seems to be a bit more to it than that. She goes on to say:
├óΓé¼┼ôCirque du Soleil ├óΓé¼ΓÇ£ it├óΓé¼Γäós the big, bad brother now. My main complaint is that the productions are just too loud. You can├óΓé¼Γäót have an intimate experience in the theater anymore. And that├óΓé¼Γäós what it├óΓé¼Γäós about. It├óΓé¼Γäós really about the unification of an audience, having a collective audience, individually, and listening. And we├óΓé¼Γäóre not allowed to listen any more because the sound level is too loud. And, I don├óΓé¼Γäót know where the voice is coming from. It├óΓé¼Γäós not coming from the stage any more. My eyes are looking at the stage, and my ears are searching for the sound that the mouth is producing. So, immediately I├óΓé¼Γäóm disenfranchised from my experience.”
Wow. We’re not sure what to say. We love us some Cirque action, but we love us some Patti LuPone just as much. Guess there’s only one thing to say …
