We sure picked a good night to see Forbidden Broadway, the musical theater revue sending up all the shows on Broadway. A New York City institution!
Thursday night, god of the gays Stephen Sondheim was also in attendance and it was surreal to sit directly across the aisle from him – less than a foot away – and hear him (and slyly watch him) react to a show that was lampooning his work and HIM!
We had never seen Forbidden Broadway before. We were expecting lots of laughs and insider jokes. We got that! Very much so! AND, we were pleased at all the unexpected fabulousness we also received!
The cast is super talented and were SINGING THEIR FACES OFF the whole show! Loved it!!! Even if you haven’t seen all or most of the shows they satire, it’s still a thrill to hear these talented singers do what they’re great at!
And, another unexpected surprise, were the truly inspired costumes! So fun and funny and creative!
Our only major criticism is that the show could have easily been condensed. There was no need for it to be two acts. Cut that intermission and trim some fat!
Having said that…
Forbidden Broadway: Alive & Kicking is a must for any musical theater lover! It won’t disappoint!
