The Broadway community paid tribute to one of the greatest to ever grace a New York stage on Wednesday night.
Hundreds gathered to remember Philip Seymour Hoffman as theater marquees and the lights of Broadway went dark for one minute at 7:45 pm.
A candlelight vigil was also held in his honor outside the Labyrinth Theater, where Hoffman was a company member for nearly 20 years.
Reverend Jim Martin, a fellow Labyrinth member, addressed the crowd about the passing of the Oscar-winning actor, saying:
“We come together tonight in a spirit of terrible mourning and incredible loss. But we also come together to celebrate a remarkable life.”
Philip Seymour Hoffman, 46, died of an apparent heroin overdose on Sunday. He will be laid to rest in a private funeral on Friday.
