According to TMZ, Simon died early Sunday morning after having been on life support for some time; he had a failing kidney, as well as Alzheimer’s Disease and dementia.
As a playwright, Simon was practically unparalleled in American theater — from his classic first hit Barefoot in the Park in 1963, to more recent plays that won him Tony Awards, including The Odd Couple, Biloxi Blues, and Lost In Yonkers, to name just a few of his many, many works.
Oh, and he was the first playwright ever to have a Broadway theater named after him. True royalty in the industry.
According to reports, there will be a memorial service for Simon at some point on Thursday in New York City.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family, friends, and loved ones.
