It just doesn’t seem like Prince William and Prince Harry are going to mend fences well enough between ’em to get things right for family time this Christmas, does it?
A mutual friend of the princes is speaking out about the deepening rift in the brothers’ formerly close relationship, and if this insider is to be believed, well, it’ll be a lot more than Christmas that gets ruined for the royal family. Mo’ money, mo’ problems, indeed…

Speaking to People about the royal rumble between the redheaded little bro and his soon-to-be-King older brother, the mutual friend paints a grim picture of a relationship gone very wrong. But interestingly, there’s more to it than just brotherly competition; the insider acknowledges how the 2017 departure of Queen Elizabeth‘s long-time private secretary, Christopher Geidt, created a vacuum of power where there was no one available any more to help smooth things over between the brothers after fights.
The insider noted how Geidt was an important resource for the boys to confide in and air out their grievances about each other, adding (below):
“Geidt really had the boys’ backs, and offered them a side channel around their dad. [Now], there is a lot of hurt and a lot of unresolved issues between the boys, and no one to help mediate. What’s more, petty grievances can become huge conflicts between all the different royal offices if they aren’t managed correctly, and that’s exactly what’s happening now.”
Interesting to hear how big a part the royal staff inevitably ends up playing in cases like this!

To hear those still in palace circles tell it, they’re desperately trying to downplay the appearance of a rift. Longtime royal historian Robert Lacey rather attributes what’s going on to minor changes as they boys inevitably grow up and become men:
“After the death of their mother, Princess Diana, in 1997, the two brothers were thrown together by the tragedy of their childhood. But it’s inevitable, as they grow up and develop different personalities, that synchronicity won’t apply anymore.”
Hmmm… we believe that’s a thing, but is that really the only thing that’s going on here?!
Yet another palace insider was quick to downplay any talk of a broader feud, too, and instead added yet another excuse to the mix: married life is keeping Willam and Harry apart. This source claimed (below):
“As is often the case in any family, when one of your siblings gets married, there’s always a period of readjustment. People have new priorities and different focuses … William is the future King. There is going to be some competitiveness between him and Harry. That already puts a rock in the relationship.”
Uh-huh…

But whatever the insiders may say to try to make the family feud lesser than what it increasingly appears to be, one only need look as far as Harry himself to figure out what’s really going on. In that memorable ITV documentary Harry & Meghan, An African Journey where the couple came clean about some ongoing issues, you may recall one of the things the 35-year-old prince said about his elder brother at the time:
“Inevitably stuff happens. But we’re brothers, we’ll always be brothers. We’re certainly on different paths at the moment.”
Different paths… no kidding.
