She just made history herstory!
When it comes to swimming in the 2016 Summer Olympics, most Americans have kept their attention focused on Michael Phelps, Ryan Lochte, and Katie Ledecky.
However, Team USA just got a little brighter thanks to Simone Manuel‘s gold medal in the 100m freestyle in Rio de Janeiro on Thursday night!

But as if winning first place in a final wasn’t impressive enough, the 20-year-old just became the first black woman to ever win a gold medal in Olympic swimming!
Simone tied with Canada’s Penny Oleksiak with the Olympic Record of 52.70 — only the second tie in the history of the sport at the Games — which will pair nicely with the silver medal she won earlier in the week in the 4x100m freestyle relay alongside Katie, Abbey Weitzeil, and Dana Vollmer.
Way to slay, Simone!
