Rod Stewart Reveals He's In Remission After Secret Three-Year Battle With Prostate Cancer

Rod Stewart has revealed he’s in remission after a secret, three-year struggle with prostate cancer.

The legendary British rockstar was reportedly diagnosed with the disease, medically known as prostatic carcinoma, three years ago during a routine check-up in February 2016.

The 74-year-old decided to finally share his truth with the world while speaking at a fundraising event for the Prostate Project and European Tour Foundation in the UK over the weekend, per the Daily Mirror.

Speaking to a crowd of 500 people at the Wentworth Club in Surrey, England, with wife Penny Lancaster by his side, Stewart said:

“Two years ago I was diagnosed with prostate cancer. No one knows this, but I thought this was about time I told everybody. I’m in the clear, now, simply because I caught it early. I have so many tests.”

Prostate cancer is the fourth most commonly diagnosed type of cancer worldwide, according to the World Health Organization, with 1.3 million cases reported in 2018. While the condition is more likely to affect men over the age of 50, it can be diagnosed at a younger age.

The famed musician said he was fortunate enough to go into remission this July.

Now, he is helping to raise awareness about prostate cancer — urging men everywhere to take preliminary measures, get simple check-ups, and stay up-to-date about the state of their health in order to spot any signs of the disease early on.

“Guys, you’ve really got to go to the doctor… finger up the bum, no harm done.”

He continued:

“If you’re positive, and you work through it and you keep a smile on your face … I’ve worked for two years and I’ve just been happy, and the good Lord looked after me.”

The star was also supported by his former Faces bandmates Kenney Jones and Ronnie Wood at the special charity event.

Following Stewart’s words, Wood (who has faced lung cancer) remarked, “Someone up there likes us, Rod.”

We can’t help but agree, as it’s remarkable to hear Rod was able to beat the often fatal condition at his age. But, we’re thankful for the good news. And, we applaud him for speaking out about it all!

The Grammy-award winning artist — best known for his hits Maggie May and I Don’t Want To Talk About It –was knighted for his services to music and charity back in 2016. Stewart is reportedly gearing up for a short Las Vegas concert residency this week, ahead of an arena tour of the UK beginning in Manchester on November 23.
