Leslie Jones
had no problem calling out Saturday Night Live‘s lack of diversity — even if it meant facing her fellow castmate!
The Ghostbusters star revealed to The New Yorker that she confronted Kenan Thompson about his previous comments regarding diversity on the late night sketch show!

Back in 2013, the SNL vet seemed to blame the NBC show’s lack of black female cast members on a shortage of talented black comediennes, telling TV Guide:

“In auditions, they just never find ones that are ready.”

Later that year, Jones addressed Thompson’s comments on the Alias Smith and LeRoi podcast, questioning why SNL couldn’t find funny black women to fill the spot:

“There’s motherf*ckin’ three b*tches I can call right now, goddammit, that will fill that spot. Just because you don’t know them, that don’t mean that they don’t f*cking exist.”

The 48-year old auditioned for a spot on the show in late December 2013, which went to Sasheer Zamata. But Jones landed a job on the writing staff that season, and wasted no time calling out Thompson in person!

She recalled:

“I came at him, like, ‘I heard what you said, motherf*cker,’. He said, ‘Come in, close the door, let’s talk.'”

It doesn’t seem like there is any bad blood between the two now. Jones, who became a featured player on SNL the following season, said that Thompson is now “possibly my best friend on the show.”
As for Thompson, he still doesn’t regret his comments about the issue, explaining:

“What I said was that the show hadn’t found the right people. That was true. And at the end of the day Leslie and Sasheer both got jobs, so I’m happy.”

We’re happy all is good now over at 30 Rock!
