Maverick Couch of Ohio (above) was threatened suspension from his school after he showed up wearing a rainbow “sign of the fish” along with the words “Jesus is not a homophobe” on his t-shirt.
After a school principal ordered him to turn his t-shirt inside out, he told him that he would be suspended if he wore the shirt again.
Being the fighter that he is though, Maverick didn’t give up and researched his First Amendment rights. He then went to Lambda Legal where they sent a letter to the school, reminding them that their students are protected under the First Amendment.
The school board refused to change their position, arguing that Maverick├óΓé¼Γäós t-shirt is “sexual” and “lewd.”
Lambda Legal has since filed a lawsuit on behalf of Maverick asking that the court allow him to wear his t-shirt on April 20th, the National Day of Silence.
