Some crimes you read about and you just… can’t even fathom how a human could be so vile. In this case, we’re talking about two humans. And one crime is, against all odds, maybe even more offensive than the other.
A mother in Provo, Utah, was arrested last week according to a probable cause statement from the Provo City Police — charged with an absolutely shocking 76 child sex crimes. 42 first-degree felony charges of human trafficking of a child. 30 counts of aggravated sexual exploitation of a minor. Two counts of sodomy on a child. Two counts of aggravated sexual abuse of a child. And all of them involved her own daughter.
The 38-year-old mother (whose name is being kept private to protect the identity of the victim) allegedly made sexually explicit videos of her daughter and uploaded them to video messaging app Kik for a known child sex offender. Cops say Chris Seamann, 52, would pay the mom for these videos. But it gets worse.
According to an arrest affidavit obtained by local outlet KSL, Seamann would also come visit — and pay the mother to commit sexual acts with the child. The mom told cops this had been going on for five or six years, around 10 times total. Her daughter is now 10 years old. So this has been happening since she was 4. Just despicable.
The mother told authorities Seamann (pictured above) paid her $20 “per session” with the girl. Twenty f**king dollars. Sorry, but… What the hell.
She noted he “would also buy the victim gifts and treats for sexual acts” and also pay for hotel rooms. The most recent incident in person was less than two weeks ago, on September 3. The mom “outlined [the] instance in graphic detail” for cops, per the affidavit. And shockingly she admitted she “was sitting on a bench seat in the hotel room watching all of this.” In total this time she received a laptop and $125. For her daughter’s soul. JFC.
The woman did suggest she’d been coerced, telling investigators “he makes her do it and threatens her by saying something along the lines of ‘he’ll do what he needs to do.'” However, he “never made any explicit threats.”
Police finally caught on to this scheme thanks to a cyber tip from officials at Kik who flagged the messages she was sending. Police partnered with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) and compared the girl in the videos to the woman’s daughter on her social media accounts. Believing her to be the same girl, they approached the mother and ended up with this confession.
Seamann, who was already on the National Sex Offender Registry for a 1993 conviction for 1st-degree forcible sexual assault, was arrested in Mesquite, Nevada on September 6. He’s been charged with 1st-degree felony sodomy on a child, 1st-degree felony rape of a child, three counts of 2nd-degree felony sexual abuse of a child, and 3rd-degree felony lewdness involving a child.
We just cannot imagine how a mother could knowingly let this happen to any child, much less her own daughter. Simply horrifying.
