Selena Gomez and Zayn Malik’s rumored romance has shocked the internet — but it turns out this isn’t their first time hooking up!
Per a Page Six source on Tuesday, the Wizards of Waverly Place alum reportedly first linked up with the One Direction crooner “way back” in the day when Zayn’s bandmate Harry Styles was dating Selly G’s best friend Taylor Swift! As Perezcious readers know, the Anti-Hero singer and As It Was crooner linked up in the fall of 2012. Turns out their quick fling was enough to convince Gomez and Malik to test out a romance of their own, a top music industry insider revealed:
“They had a thing years ago, when Taylor and Harry were dating. […] It doesn’t surprise me at all that they’re potentially together [today].”
Oh! Things must have been good if they’re willing to try again! Of course, Selena was on and off with Justin Bieber from 2010 to 2018, so that may be why Zayn never stood much of a chance in the past. But now that JB’s out of the picture, maybe this will turn into a fully fledged relationship?!

As we reported, TikTok user Klarissa Garcia revealed her waitress friend spotted the pair enjoying a romantic dinner date in New York last week. On Friday, she told the outlet:
“No one noticed them [in the restaurant]. It was pretty public but … no one really cares about famous people in New York.”
That said, her bestie was well aware of who the famous pair was! In a screenshot of a text message thread shared online, the restaurant employee said:
“Tell me how Selena Gomez and Zayne [sic] just walked into [blurred out restaurant] hand in hand making out and I seated them.”
This sighting comes after the Pillowtalk vocalist sparked dating rumors when he followed Selena on Instagram, making her just one of 18 accounts he keeps tabs on. It’s gotta be serious then, right?!

According to an Us Weekly source, this dinner date was (hopefully) just the beginning of the pair’s second chance, an insider said:
“Zayn has known Selena for years and he’s definitely into her. He’s always admired her and thinks she’s an incredible person, inside and out.”
While the musicians aren’t “super serious” or exclusive yet, the Brit is hoping for a future with the Only Murders in the Building star:
“She’s free to see other people. However, Zayn would love to continue to see Selena and see where things go.”
This marks the Dusk Till Dawn artist’s first public relationship since his messy split from Gigi Hadid, with whom he shares a 2-year-old daughter Khai. They broke up in October 2021 after Zayn was accused of striking Gigi’s momma Yolanda Hadid, which he has denied. The model has fully “moved on” and just wants the best for her baby daddy, so that’s good! As for the 30-year-old, he is also ready for something new:
“He’s been focused on himself these past few years and feels like he’s ready to date again. He’s feeling optimistic about the possibility of things growing between him and Selena but isn’t putting any pressure on the situation. He’d rather just let things progress organically and believes she feels the same.”
