Disney Channel fam strong!
There wasn’t a dry eye in the room during Selena Gomez’s appearance on her Wizards of Waverly Place co-stars’ podcast, Wizards of Waverly Pod. The latest episode, which dropped early Monday morning, saw the Only Murders in the Building actress reflect on her days in the Mouse House with her onscreen dad David DeLuise, AKA Jerry Russo, and Jennifer Stone, AKA her BFF Harper Finkle. Gomez, who starred as Alex Russo for four seasons, told the hosts how much working on the show meant to her, explaining:
“I can’t imagine it any other way. I remember being nervous, but as long as David was there, I was like, ‘Okay, I’m good.’ Little did I know, I ended up with everyone I needed to be in my life.”
So sweet! The Golden Globe-nominated actress emotionally continued:
“I just think I felt safe and that’s a really hard thing for me to feel, and I know you guys love me for me. You guys genuinely loved me and that’s all I could have asked for — the unconditional trust and bond we had, I miss so much.”

David, 51, then chimed in, asking for a “tissue, please,” before Jennifer explained:
“But that was what was so special about our cast, is the fact that, like, that was an experience and a special time, I think, in all our lives that we’ll all share and we’ll all, like — we don’t have that with anyone else.”
The show, which ran from 2007-2012, was definitely a unique experience for everyone involved, and during such formative years for the younger cast members. Selena agreed, adding:
“I have to say the same. I’m so lucky and grateful that I get to be a part of all these other projects, but I tell people all the time, I’ve never had that feeling with the whole Wizards crew. Not just you guys.”
A teary-eyed David then added:
“To know that then is what made it so special. We really were a family. Even though we aren’t blood related, I feel really close to you guys. We experienced something that is very rare in this business that you get to bond with people like that.”

It’s so great to hear what an incredible experience the three had, and how close they all still hold one another in their hearts. Many of us are used to hearing less than ideal stories from former Disney child actors, so it’s fantastic to hear something positive for a change! See the full podcast episode (below):
