The queen of tennis has returned!
Serena Williams came back to the court in a major way on Thursday when she joined the Women’s Tennis Association Tour, winning the first set after a 14-month break for the birth of her first child.

The 36-year-old athlete said after defeating Zarina Diyas of Kazakhstan at the Indian Wells BNP Paribas Open in California:
“It was incredible. It’s been over a year and a kid later and I get to go home to her now, and I’m excited about that. ├óΓé¼┬ª It definitely wasn’t easy. We always have a couple tight sets. It was good. I’m a little rusty, but it doesn’t matter. I’m just out here on this journey and doing the best I can.”
She also told reporters:
“Thank you guys for coming out. It was incredible. You know, it’s been over a year and a kid later, and I get to go home now to her, so I’m excited about that.”
Hopefully there are a few billboards waiting for her on the way home! Congrats!
