Shakira is going into protective momma-bear mode.
The Colombian singer took to Instagram on Monday with a lengthy post requesting privacy for her young children Milan, 10, and Sasha, 8, who have been having a tough time as they navigate their parents’ messy split.
As Perezcious readers know, Shakira has been feuding with her ex Gerard Piqué after discovering he was allegedly cheating on her with his new girlfriend, Clara Chia Marti. The longtime couple promptly split up after Shakira unearthed the affair with the help of an empty jam jar. Ever since then, they’ve been shading each other in the public eye. Earlier this month, the Hips Don’t Lie performer officially left Barcelona, where she was reportedly evicted from her home by the soccer star’s father, and moved to Miami, Florida with her boys.
As you can imagine, it’s been an incredibly challenging time for the young kids, who have not only been dealing with the emotional breakup of their family but have been having to handle all the media attention. Now, Shakira is hoping the public will help her in giving them a break from the drama.

Getting candid on the ‘gram on Monday night, the Zootopia alum asked her “friends, journalists and [the] media” to give her family privacy as they begin their next chapter. Translated from Spanish, she wrote:
“At this moment of changes in my life as a public figure, it is understandable that there is a permanent curiosity from the press around me and my family. Yet my children, Milan and Sasha have lived a very difficult year, suffering an incessant siege and relentless pursuit by paparazzi and various media in Barcelona.”
Oof. We hate to hear it. The Waka Waka artist continued:
“As they begin a new phase in their lives, I urge the media on behalf of my children to please respect their right to privacy.
I ask you to refrain from following them to the exit or entrance of the school, wait for them at the door of our house, or chase them to their extracurricular activities, and games as it has happened every day in Barcelona in order to obtain photographs or better ratings.”
Every day?? Shakira and Gerard announced their breakup in June — that’s nearly a year ago! Such a LONG time to be following the kids!

Just wanting her children to feel safe in their home and school environments, the 46-year-old kindly requested all those interested in her relationship troubles stay away from the children:
“I trust that journalists and photographers are sensitive to the situation facing Milan and Sasha and can behave in the most humane way possible with them, given that this is the health and physical and emotional integrity of two under 8 and 10 years of just wishing they could go out on the street, and attend school feeling safe and having the peace of mind not being chased or subjected to constant surveillance of cameras.
I extend this petition no longer as an artist, but as a mother who wants to protect and care for the psychological and emotional well-being of her children so that they can live a healthy and happy life, as every child deserves.”
