In the 47-year-old’s new Rolling Stone cover story, the iconic Shakira took a moment to gush about how he came to her rescue when she needed someone most. We all know the messy story of her breakup with Gerard Piqué — she’s shared a lot of her grievances following the cheating scandal and sudden split. It wasn’t easy on her or the couple’s kids, Milan, 11, and Sasha, 9, but luckily she found a friend to help the lights guide her home.

While speaking to the publication, the Hips Don’t Lie songstress said of the Coldplay frontman:

“He was there for me when I got separated and was heartbroken.”

She went on to say how “empathetic” her longtime bestie is — he checked up on her “every day”:

“He was checking in every day to see how I was doing, sending me words of support and strength and wisdom. I see him as a person who sees life through a different lens, who’s sensitive to other people’s needs and very empathetic, very empathetic.”

Aww!

So sweet! It’s always important to have a good friend in your corner when you’re going through something as tough as she was. We’re glad to hear Chris was such a rock for her.
