Shannen Doherty Sounds Off On The CW's 'Ignorant' Description Of The 'Feminist' Charmed Reboot!

Another Halliwell sister has cast down The CW‘s Charmed reboot!
Shannen Doherty tweeted out a spell of thoughts on the topic while chatting with fans over the weekend. She isn’t specifically for or against the project, but she made one thing clear: calling it a “feminist reboot” is a huge slap in the face to the original series!

The actress started the conversation on a positive note, admitting she’s “intrigued” by the idea of a reboot resonating with a new generation of fans and delivering more “great roles” for women.
Responding to fans, she shared:

While she tried to keep away from the negativity, the cancer survivor couldn’t help but cringe at the network describing the project as a “feminist reboot” when the original run was, by definition, a feminist series.
Here’s The CW’s full description:

“This fierce, funny, feminist reboot of the original series centers on three sisters in a college town who discover they are witches. Between vanquishing supernatural demons, tearing down the patriarchy, and maintaining familial bonds, a witch’s work is never done.”

Ick. Sure, feminism is sellable these days — but they shouldn’t be so blatantly obvious about try to cash in on it.

Like her former costar Holly Marie Combs, Doherty found the description to be “ignorant,” “a bit offensive,” and probably written by someone who has never seen Charmed:

True, Prue!
Awful description aside, we’re still excited to see what comes of this project. As long as it’s about three witch sisters kicking ass, count us in!
