The revival was confirmed in February by Miz Spelling, whose late father Aaron Spelling was an executive producer of the original program:

“We’re all really excited to get back to work with each other every day… We’ve come full circle and it feels really great. This is the ultimate high school reunion and we’re going to be back together every day and I’m so excited.”

Notably missing from the OG crew of West Beverly High is Luke Perry, who tragically passed away due to complications of a stroke on March 4, 2019. The iconic actor who portrayed bad boy Dylan McKay had not signed onto the reboot with the rest of the gang because of his commitment to his role of Fred Andrews on the CW‘s Riverdale.
Miz Doherty paid tribute on Friday afternoon to her beloved on-screen romance via her Instagram story shortly confirming the news of her return:

Following Mr. Perry’s tragic passing, Brian Austin Green revealed that many of the cast members had been struggling with grief, but reunited in his memory:

“People I haven’t seen in like, 18 years at least. It was very mixed emotions, because you were happy to everybody and you felt like, ‘God, it’s been too long,’ and it was great, but what a horrible reason to have to see everybody again. It was definitely interesting.”

The 45-year-old continued:

“I even texted him after he had passed, knowing obviously that he can’t text me back, but on some level hoping that he would text me back or that he was out there somewhere. And I know he is. I know he’s looking down and I know he’s smiling. Knowing Luke, he is not one that wants us to mourn him. He wants us to celebrate him.”

And they do have plans to celebrate his memory on the much awaited show. At an INTV conference in Jerusalem, CBS TV Studios president David Stapf revealed that the upcoming revival will find a way to honor his memory:

“[H]ow we deal with [Perry’s death] moving forward is yet to be determined. That’s something the writers are going to have to figure out.”

We’re very excited to have Shannen back in the 90210!
