The Twycross zoo in Leicestershire had to shuts its doors temporarily Thursday morning, after a gang of chimps escaped their keepers’ hands and made their way towards a “secure service area.”
As per procedure, the zoo had to call police to notify them of the incident, even though the chimps were fine and the public was in no danger.
Here’s what the police said:
“A call came in at 9.35 this morning from the zoo to let us know that some chimpanzees were in the process of being moved from one building to another, and in the process of this they have perhaps gone into an area of that building that they shouldn’t have been in. They don’t appear to have actually physically escaped. As a precaution, we’ve been called by the zoo.”
The zoo was able to get the chimps back safe and sound by one of the best methods we’ve heard in recent memory!
They lured ’em back with ice cream!!!
Here’s what the zoo’s website said about the incident:
“Twycross zoo can confirm that one of their group of chimpanzees found their way into a secure service area within their enclosure,” said a statement on its website. “This required closure of the zoo whilst keepers encouraged the chimps back into their normal living areas with ice-cream and fizzy drinks.”
As for the chimps – the zoo says they appear to be in good spirits “if not a little excited about having ice-cream for breakfast.”
Well, who wouldn’t be excited about ice cream for breakfast?!?!
We’re glad the chimps are not rising against all the humans on the planet okay!!!
