That’s a wrap on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.
After his controversial cancellation, the late-night host bid farewell to his iconic show on Thursday.
The emotional episode took place at the Ed Sullivan Theater, where he was joined by friends and many stars, including Ryan Reynolds, Bryan Cranston, Paul Rudd, and many more. The sad ending comes after the network pulled the show, supposedly due to financial pressures — though we all know it had way more to do with Donald Trump than they want to admit! UGH!
Referencing this drama, Stephen opened the show by joking:
“If you’re just tuning into The Late Show, you missed a lot.”
That’s an understatement!

That said, he went on to insist, “we were lucky enough to be here for the last 11 years. You can’t take this for granted.” Stephen later reflected on the start of his career on Comedy Central‘s Colbert Report in 2005, where he’d say:
“Anyone can read the news to you. I promise to feel the news ‘at’ you.”
But once shifting to CBS in 2015, he realized things needed to change:
“I realized pretty soon … that our job over here was different. We were here to feel the news with you. And I don’t know about you, but I sure have felt it.”
In a perfect f**k you to CBS, Stephen took one final shot at the company in his “Meanwhile” segment. The comedian discussed how the owner of music from A Charlie Brown Christmas and other Peanuts specials has filed four lawsuits “against those illegally using the famous song Linus and Lucy.” He told his band leader Louis Cato:
“Now Peanuts is a powerful brand and corporation in and of itself, anyone illegally using that music is going to have to pay through the nose, Louis.”
The band then started playing the song as Stephen teased:
“Excuse me, Louis, is the band, is the band right now playing the same Peanuts music that I just said people are being sued for, for using without permission? Is that what you’re doing? Oh no, I hope this doesn’t cost CBS any money.”
LMFAO!!!
