According to a new study, we’re all kind of dumb.
JK, but the study did find that most dieters make incorrect assumptions about food, using the name of the food instead of its ingredients to make judgements about whether or not it’s healthy.
The study gave dieters an option of two meals: Pasta or salad. They were given a list of ingredients and photos of the food.
The twist was that both meals had the exact same amount of calories, and in fact, the exact same ingredients (including lettuce, tomatoes, pasta shells, cheese, and vinaigrette).
Dieter tended to rate the pasta as much unhealthier than the salad — whereas non-dieters didn├óΓé¼Γäót make such snap judgements.
The lesson? Don’t go by the name of the food alone. Some salads are awful for you, and some pastas are super healthy.
Look at the ingredients!
