Looks like the boredom of rural life takes it toll in the form of drug abuse!
Researchers surveyed 17,872 teens and found that 13% of kids in rural areas had abused prescription drugs, while only 10% had in urban areas.
Another interesting finding in the study was that kids in two-parent households were 32% less likely to misuse prescription drugs than kids in homes with only one parent. Further, teens who stayed in school had better physical and mental health and did not use other substances or prescription drugs.
All parents need to make sure that they are not providing their kids with easy access to drugs, but if you’re in a rural area you need to be extra careful!
