Dr. Jennifer Ashton spoke about a new study that found sugar-sweetened beverages could be a significant factor in weight gain.
We all knew that these drinks were not good for us, but make sure to see what the study has to say.
It has been studied that soda, juice (that is not 100% juice) and sports drinks MUST be consumed in limitation.
There was a study done in teens across all different ethnicities to see how much sugary beverages they drink and then in comparison to that how much they exercise and what kinds of foods they eat.
It has been found that one 12 oz can a day can add up to a whopping 13-15 pounds of weight gain a year!!!
According to this study, teens who drank soda, not diet soda, were less active and ate less healthy foods than those who did not drink as much soda. It was also found that boys tend to drink more soda than girls.
When it comes to sports drinks, they should only be consumed after doing 60-90 minutes of strenuous activity, otherwise water or milk should be the chosen drink.
Parents were told that they should dilute these sugary sports drinks with water to limit the intake of calories for their children.
So…make sure to limit consumption of these sweet beverages and make sure to stay active and eat well!
