That’s right guys and gals, he’s back!
For the first time in over a decade Taye Diggs will be returning to Broadway as the star in the Tony Awardwinning hit Hedwig and the Angry Inch!
On July 19, the current star, Darren Criss, is set to exit the production at which point Diggs will take over headlining. He’s officially signed on for a 12-week stint with the show, starring opposite Rebecca Naomi Jones and he’ll start July 22, 2015!

The show revolves around a German emigrant, Hedwig, who is the victim of a botched sex-change operation, as she embarks on her journey to find love and stardom. The revival play — which originally opened as an off-Broadway production in 1998 — relaunched last year with Neil Patrick Harris as its star and ended up winning four Tony Awards including Best Revival of a Musical.
Since it launched, it’s gone through quite a few actors playing the lead including: Michael C. Hall, Andrew Rannells, John Cameron Mitchell, who was the original star of the show. With Diggs taking over duties as Hedwig, it marks the first time an actor who isn’t white has played the role in the major New York production!

Diggs actually started his career on Broadway when he played Ben Coffin III in the original production of Rent! Since then, he’s appeared in such Broadway acts as Chicago and Wicked, with the most recent New York production being A Soldier’s Play in 2005.
We’re so excited to see Taye back on Broadway and can’t wait to see what he’s gonna do with the role! What do you think — is Diggs a good casting choice or do you have someone better in mind?
